Product Review: Garner’s Garden, an all-natural body care line

20131219-160650.jpg

Over the years, we’ve become more exposed to organic foods and natural products to enhance our bodies for the better.  Out with the old school concoctions with ingredients labels that we cannot understand, let alone actually knowing what those ‘ingredients’ are. In, with the enhanced and unrefined, handmade goodness from Garner’s Garden.

I’ve been recently introduced to these incredible products from this new, 100% all-natural, handmade body care line:

  • Whipped Body Butter (Citrus) – Promotes soft skin, lightweight and very moisturizing
  • Mineralizing Kaolin Clay – Ultra detoxifying and purifying, can be used as a face and/or body mask
  • Pre-Bath Face Oil (Lavender) – Locks moisture into skin, preventing excessive dryness after cleansing
  • Normalizing Face Oil (Lavender) – Great for removing makeup, non-greasy formula
  • Cocoa Vanilla Lip Balm – Comes in a variety of scents and keeps lips soft and supple, a must-have for everyone!

If you are particular about your bath and body products, Garner’s Garden is definitely a great brand to try. It’s a comforting feeling knowing that what you’re applying to your body is actually nourishing and beneficial.

P.S. These would make great holiday gifts and stocking stuffers, too!

Fall-ing for this season!

20130924-220558.jpg

The summer is now behind us and I’ve definitely been M.I.A. from blogging (my bad!) However, I’ve had an amazing summer–filled with cookouts, new friends, road trips and all around fun experiences. I am back on the wagon…the writing wagon, that is!

Well, it’s a new season and not to sound so cliché, but I am excited for all things Fall. Of course pumpkins will be plentiful, cooler weather, football season (which I’m actually excited for because I’ve been educated on the game, a bit) and perhaps…a new me? Again, another cliché saying, but it’s somewhat true….

New season, new hair color! A bit anti-climatic, but I love it and wanted to share with my wonderful readers. (See handy-dandy iPhone selfie below)

Who else is excited for Fall? Share your favorite Fall things!

P.S. Special thank you to my bestie/hairstylist extraordinaire, Jen, for my new look 🙂

Easy weeknight meal: Summer Stir Fry

20130709-124949.jpg

Last night, I came across the cooking site “The Comfort of Cooking” (via TheNest.com) which has some really tasty-looking recipes accompanied by some amazing imagery (I really need to upgrade to a better camera-DSLR, maybe?). Coming home from the gym, I always feel like I’m starving. So, I looked for something easy to throw together for dinner and the ‘Summer Stir Fry’ popped up. Who doesn’t love a good stir fry, especially one with fresh, healthy ingredients?

Luckily, I already had all of the ingredients on-hand (happy dance!) :

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 25-30 whole shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails left on
  • 2 whole zucchini, sliced on a slight diagonal
  • 2 ears corn, kernels sliced off
  • ½ cup grape tomatoes, halved
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • Chopped fresh herbs, such as parsley/basil/cilantro, if desired
  • **Crushed red pepper flakes (Not a part of the recipe, but I added since I love spicy food)
  • **Jasmine rice or Brown rice (This wasn’t included in the recipe either, but I added for a little more substance)

To see how to make this delicious recipe, click here.

I am happy to report the dish was very easy to prepare, it’s super colorful and full of flavor. This recipe yielded more than enough to bring for today’s lunch. This will definitely be added to my list of quick and easy meals — very pleasing to the taste buds.

What are some of your favorite recipes, that are easy to pull together quickly? Please share!

B.E.T. Awards 2013 – Best Dressed

Adrienne Bailon, Jordin Sparks, Nicki Minaj, Michelle Williams

Adrienne Bailon, Jordin Sparks, Nicki Minaj, Michelle Williams

Last Sunday, the B.E.T. Awards aired and the red carpet was buzzing with some very interesting fashion choices. There were definitely some people who didn’t look like they put much effort into their looks. Then, we have the ladies who really represented, looking sassy and most definitely classy.

My favorites:

Adrienne Bailon – Rocked a berry colored Michael Costello gown, looking very grecian and goddess-like. I also love how she accessorized with turquoise accents

Jordin Sparks – Wore a Clover Canyon, printed sheath which is perfection for a summer look. Let’s not overlook the understated, but oh-so-necessary hoop earrings (my all-time favorite accessory)

Nicki Minaj – Dazzled in form-fitting, black lace detailed Roberto Cavalli. The look is a little vampy, but so feminine and alluring

Michelle Williams – Exhibited lady-like chic with a strapless layered-ruffle peplum gown, designed by Nicci Hou. The deep “V” and the high split in the front offers a touch of ooh-la-la

Whose look is your favorite?

The “House Happy” series

My dining room area, featuring a Crate & Barrel buffet

My dining room area, featuring a Crate & Barrel buffet

If you are familiar with the famed interior decorator/designer Nate Berkus and his tv show, he had a segment featuring viewers showcasing their “proud design moments” in their homes. This was so interesting to see how other people around the country like to decorate their homes. A lot of times, this also served as inspiration! Well, I wanted to have my own spin on Mr. Berkus’ concept. The Lex of Hearts version will be named “House Happy”.

With this new series, I ask you, my lovely readers to show off your space! It doesn’t have to be your entire home, but perhaps your favorite reading nook, or your man cave or even an amazing, superbly-organized and well put together closet.

I will start things off with my ‘dining area’ that houses one of the best purchases I’ve made, a Crate & Barrel buffet. Although my house is still work-in-progress (even though it’s been almost 3 years), my buffet/console area is very much me. I actually try to switch out the decorative items occasionally, to spice it up a bit. I also love this piece for the ample storage behind the cabinet doors. I have a place for wine glasses, entertaining servingware, flower vases, extra decorative napkins (cloth & paper), candles, etc.

From my experience, HomeGoods/Marshalls/TJ Maxx are usually the best places to pick up quality, but affordable items for the home. Oh! And we can’t forget Ikea! (One of the best places on earth, next to Disney World, of course)

Here is a list of key items shown in my space:

  • Crate & Barrel Buffet – Craigslist find
  • Sunburst mirror – HomeGoods
  • Lamp – TJ Maxx
  • Black Greek Key box – HomeGoods
  • Silver Candlesticks – Ikea
  • Silver Bottle (on top of Greek Key box) – Marshalls
  • “Fashion Box” book – Urban Outfitters
  • Blue Box (underneath the candlesticks) – Tiffany & Co

What are your favorite go-to stores and/or online shops that you frequent to decorate your living space?

Would you like to be featured for the “House Happy” series? Email me. This will be fun!

Re-fresh your wardrobe with ShoeMint

ShoeMint logo

I’m sure you’re all familiar with popular shoe sites such as ShoeDazzle and JustFab, where you take a short style quiz and personalized monthly shoe selections are chosen for you to purchase. I’ve been recently introduced to a new and (in my opinion) improved shoe site, named ShoeMint. The coveted shoe designer, Steve Madden has teamed up with the popular fashionista/actress Rachel Bilson and celebrity stylist, Nicole Chavez, to create this wonderful world of shoe paradise.

ShoeMint keeps their selections exclusive, which is a must if you’re a shoe-lover. To be able to stand out in the crowd with the perfect shoe, it has to be one that hasn’t been seen yet. This site also guarantees “premium materials [and] superior craftsmanship”, free shipping, style tips and they even show you short clips of the shoe “in action” – on a model’s foot.

I will be getting a pair (or 4) of ShoeMint shoes asap! Check out the site [here] and let me know your favs…
